Bobby Orr played two seasons with Chicago Black Hawks in his career of National Hockey League and then he remained with the Boston Bruins.

At the time of his retirement at the end of the 1998-99 NHL season he was the NHL's all-time scoring leader in Goals, Assists & Points in both the regular season & Stanley Cup Playoffs. Steven Stamkos is a Canadian hockey player who was born on February 7th 1990 in Ontario. He played junior hockey in the OHL for the Sarnia Sting. In his first season with the Sting, Stamkos scored 42 goals and added 50 assists for an impressive 92 points in only 63 games as a rookie.

Stamkos pulled even better numbers in his second season in Sarnia, finishing second in the OHL for goals with 58 in 61 games (almost 1 goal per game) and adding 47 assists for 105 points. He also added a Gold medal to his collection by helping Canada win their 14th gold medal in IIHF World Under 20 Championships.

For over a year, Stamkos was the number one prospect in the country, so it was no surprise when the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning made him the 2008 NHL entry Draft first overall pick in Ottawa on June 20th 2008.

Armed with his accurate shot and his natural goal scoring abilities, Steven Stamkos was expected to start his NHL career as early as the 2008-2009 season with Tampa.

And he did. Stamkos played his first NHL game for Tampa Bay in the 2008-09 NHL season. Stamkos recorded 46 points in 79 games, 23 goals and 23 assists. While 46 points is more than acceptable for a rookie, Stamkos was somewhat criticized by some for his lack of points. A small controversy arose, when, about a month after being fired on November 14 2008, Barry Melrose stated in an interview that Stamkos was not ready for the NHL, and that although he’d one day make a good hockey player, he wasn’t strong enough to compete at the moment. That said, Stamkos enjoyed less than 10 minutes of ice time per game for a good part of the year. Still, he finished the 08-09 season with 19 points in his 20 last games. After this rookie season, it was now a question of seeing how Stamkos would react to the mounting pressure for a young 1st round draft pick.

The 2009-2010 season turned out to be the break out season for Steven Stamkos. He finished the season with an impressive 95 points in 82 games, 1 more than line-mate Martin St-Louis’ 94 points to be Tampa Bay’s leading scorer. His 51 goals and 44 assists made him the 5th NHL leading scorer for the season. Stamkos’ 51 goals tied Crosby for the year, and both shared the Maurice Richard trophy. Stamkos, Crosby and Ovechkin (with 50 goals) were the only players to break the 50 goals barrier that season.

Steven Stamkos’ great form in the 2009-2010 has created a lot of expectation from him for the 2010-2011 NHL season, which has started very well for him so far. After one month of play, Stamkos is the leading scorer in the NHL.

Sidney Crosby was born on August 7, 1987 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Troy and Trina Crosby. He got a knack for hockey at a very early age, shooting pucks in the basement when he was just two years old and putting numerous dents in the family dryer. His father was a goalie, having played major junior hockey with the Verdun Juniors and was a 12th round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 1984. Though he never played professional hockey, he did put his son on the right path. A year later when Sidney Crosby was just over three, he had donned his first pair of skates and taken to the ice. It wasn't long before he started playing organized hockey and was immediately recognized for the exceptional skill he exhibited playing the game.


Crosby's journey to the NHL
With the NHL and its players union pitted against each other in a nasty labour dispute, rumours about where Sidney would play began to surface soon after the Memorial Cup was over. He wasn't returning to the QMJHL and the World Hockey Association (WHA) along with a European team were supposedly in the mix. But Sidney made it clear that his dream was to play in the National Hockey League. While the NHL was negotiating its collective bargaining agreement, Sidney signed on to become a spokesperson for Reebok's line of hockey products
The NHL and NHLPA agreed on a new CBA on July 13th, 2005 and a special lottery draft was held on July 22nd to figure out who would get the first overall pick in the entry draft. Quickly dubbed the "Sidney Crosby sweepstakes", teams were assigned a weighted probability depending on their previous seasons' records. The Pittsburgh Penguins won the lottery and drafted Sidney Crosby as their first overall pick on July 30th, 2005. Crosby entered the NHL as an eighteen year old and was put under the tutelage of the great Mario Lemieux. Even though Mario had to retire a few months into the season due to some health concerns, Crosby clearly took over the team as their best player on the ice. He finished his rookie season with 39 goals and 63 assits for 102 points and second in the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) voting to Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. With the arrival of Russian prospect Evgeni Malkin to Pittsburgh and the continuing development of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, the Pens looked to have a strong team with a bright future. Sid continued to solidify his place in the NHL with a banner sophmore year, where his 120 points were plenty to land him the coveted Art Ross Trophy along with the Hart and Lester B. Pearson awards. The 2007-08 regular season saw Sidney Crosby miss 29 games due to injuries, but he came back strong in the playoffs to lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cup finals; where they lost to the Red Wings.

He grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and he played junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen. He was drafted 19th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and he has been in the NHL since 2005.
