I had observed this last summer also that most of the CPO emails are received at night. In my opinion, it is probably due to the fact that they run these external communications as batch jobs at night, which is usually the case in any high volume corporate type IT systems.
So guys, relax and check you emails at night :-)

Meeting in Los Angeles for their bi-annual conference, the bishops said an enforcement-only approach to immigration had failed and that stronger border fences and a piecemeal approach would do nothing to deter those seeking to find work in the United States.
"Over the past 12 years, our government has spent $25 billion on enforcement of our border. During the same period, the number of undocumented in the nation has nearly doubled," said Bishop Gerald Barnes of San Bernardino, who heads the U.S. Catholic Bishops committee on immigration.
"We urge congressional leaders and the President to seize this historic moment and enact a just and humane immigration measure," Barnes told a news conference.
"Either fix it, or five years from now there will be 20 million illegal immigrants here," said Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony, whose vow to disobey any laws that would criminalize illegal immigrants and those who help them has made him a leading voice in the national debate.
Lawmakers are struggling to reconcile a bill in the House of Representatives that focuses strictly on border enforcement with a Senate bill that would also create a temporary work program denounced by many conservatives as equivalent to an amnesty for illegal immigrants.
The bishops said all undocumented workers currently in the United States should be given a "viable and workable earned path to citizenship," not just those who have been here longest.

It was great meeting and working with everyone especiallyJay,Aman,Himanshu,Vandana,Prateek,Nilli, Vandana,Mark,Tamsen,Puneet (yes- I am being nice to you inspite of the lawyer jokes u crack at my expense!!!),Anil,Sanjeev,Rajesh,Macacaa(yes I was a bit too hard on you:)but it was all in good spirit) and ofcourse my friend Meenal. I just want to thank a few volunteers who worked on lobby day meetings with me but could not attend the lobby day or the rally day-Fora,Vasu and Payal. We are all so glad the lobby day meetings and the Rally went well. It really shows what we can do when we all get together. Kudos to IV and its members!

I am starting this thread to get familiarized with the 485 process.
My Labor is approved, 140 is also approved.
My PD is not current, so I can not file 485.
Now before I file 485, what are the things to do and when?
With little knowledge I have, we need to do the following:
1. Finger Printing
2. Medicals
What else needs to be done. Anyone who already applied 485, can sugguest what are in our hands to do before filing 485.

Besides no one is going to listen to us unless we maintain a long term relationship with many lawmakers by meeting them regularly all across the country. only then will they listen to us as representatives of IV and introduce Bills like this and co-sponsor and vote for it. It also has to do with building relations and trust.
Thats the only way to get them to pass Bills for us.
This is a process that can take months of work to get a Bill introduced and get enough people to vote for it.
Just calling them at the last minute and saying 'lets push for this' or 'why is IV not acting' is not going to do much help without the previous step.
This is an ongoing process that needs to to be done over a long period and its about getting enough votes in house and senate 216+60 to pass. that is how we ensure close to 300 lawmakers will vote for our cause.
Thats the only way to get them to pass Bills for us.

Hello everyone,
My H1B Visa Stamp expires on Feb 28, 2008 but I-94 has a date upto Mar 10,2008. Is it safe to travel to India and return on Feb 22, 2008 (Just 1 week before the visa stamp expiry)?
Please let me know.

I am looking for advice on the strategy for filing the third phase since the PDs for my wife and me have become current. My PD is Feb 2003 (EB2) and my wife's is June 2003 (EB3). My wife and I are on 8-th yr H-1B extensions with approved I-140s. Which strategy makes sense and are they even valid? The objective is to go with a risk-free strategy that gets us the GC in the quickest manner.
1. I apply for I-485 (AOS) using my PD, with my wife as dependent. And my wife applies for I-485 (AOS) using her PD, with me as dependent.
2. I apply for I-485 (AOS) using my PD, with my wife as dependent. And my wife applies for Consular Processing using her PD, with me as dependent. OR vice versa.
3. Any other option?

EB2 and EB3 care about what is happening because i have seen EB2 guys on this forum talk about the EB3 backlog and on the flip side there are EB3 guys who are working with IV on whatever garden path they are being led on.
My effort is to make IV core aware of the fact that maximum EB3 guys do not believe in IV direction. Now that is an eye opener and if IV really believes that they they are a representative of all EB they must face the fact that they do not have support of maximum of EB3 folks
Now if IV comes up with some genuine action items which will relieve the pressure on EB3 then they will see that EB3 folks will start believing in this whole lobbying and advocacy effort.
For example this 55k bill could include terms for EB3. Now no one from IV is talking about that and one enlightened eb2 volunteer says let the bill come through then we can include but if IV does not talk about it now how will any EB3 believe that IV would do in crunch time

(There are few lucky applicants with PD 2005 and filed 485 after July 2nd and have already received their GC - but that is very few).
And most centers, they are processing Dec 2006 485 applications - a backlog of 10 months.
So, assuming that it may take same 10 months to process 485 filed in July - that is May 2008!!
With this, what are the chances of DOS making PD current for all EB categories again next June? They will do this to use all the VISA numbers for FY2008.
Or, if they don't want to repeat the confusions that happened in July 2007, to what dates will the PDs move (in June/July 2008)? Atleast to 2006?

For EB3 (All countries) to see some light, the changes made recently to the allocation of excess visa, spill over and also to over subscribed countries need to be revisited. Not sure, what triggered USCIS / DOS to revise the interpretation after so many years. Did IV had any role on this, or not .. do not know.. I ask this as based on all forum updates, IV appears to have little success in the Admin Fix area. I have posted this so many times in various threads and did not get an answer, may be there is none. If the interpretation was somewhat like before, EB2 /3 both would have got the spillover... and all would have benefited in the order of PD. Now with the new interpretation. all excess / spillover visa just goes only to 2 countries (EB2 India / China). Looking at the latest numbers based on USCIS website, China has far less cases compared in India based on the cut-off date, which is good for India (EB2), as they now consume a big chunk of the numbers and rest are left out for now. I am not sure, what is opinion on this from folks from ROW (EB3) on this. Does IV has any comment on this... Having said this, I have nothing against Eb2 or EB2 India specific, and not getting into the argument whether or not EB2 need to given much preference.. I just talk to USCIS customer rep..She said it might take beyond 90 days because of too many applications...if my case is still pending within 90 days then only i can go to local office it seems. But USCIS already took final decision on my case so i cannot go to office. But she asked me to try once by taking infopass appointment.
Same for me too!!! i got second e-mail today also. I got another e-mail on july 14th with same content. My EAD expires in 15 days and i am on EAD. I don't know What the hell is going on. I e-filed on May 8th.

Conference committee and its proceedings are always closed-door things. Remember there is alittle one can do. also considering the gravity of the situation, i'd say just wait. i know that's not the best scenario but it is what it is
i don't think the committee not yet formed, in the first place and there is no time line / rule that guides about conference committe proceedings

I have mine sent on 05/06 and receipt notice date on 5/12, routed to NSC. checks encashed after that no update. One soft LUD on 06/07.
Anyone with the above dates and NSC provide me with their updates.

Hey,
This is a good idea. Cubans get the GC the day they land on this country. They can also count the number of years they waited on GC towards citizenship. All we need is a good EB-immigrant community lobby and few senators/reps who would do our bidding.

We now have 10,716 members.
